Dysfunction of the tongue as the main etiopathogenetic aspect in class III malocclusion correction (clinical case)
Healthcare Establishment «Minsk regional pediatric clinical hospital», Republic of Belarus

Abstract.
An important physiological function of the body, assuring normal vital activity of a human being is swallowing. On swallowing the action of all masticatory and facial expression musculature is coordinated under the nervous system control. The change in the type of swallowing in the process of ontogenesis plays an important role in the correct formation of maxillofacial skeleton of children and adolescents. One of the key roles in the process of swallowing is played by the tongue. Correct swallowing is the pledge of successful orthodontic treatment and stability of its results.
On the clinical pattern the result of orthodontic treatment of class III occlusion on the etiopathogenetic basis is presented in this article. The received result of treatment confirms the assumption that:
1. Correct swallowing function is necessary for the normal development of the bones of facial skeleton.
2. The tongue articulation on swallowing exerts direct influence on the position of teeth in the alveolar processes of the jaws and homeostasis of stomatopharynx, nasopharynx organs.
3. As a result of the conducted orthodontic treatment the facial aesthetics has normalized. The extent of changes of the studied measurements of the head and face before and after treatment proves its efficacy.
Key words: function of swallowing, maxillofacial development.
