The evaluation of the development risk of gastroduodenal erosions and ulcers, induced by meloxicam intake in H.pylori-positive patients with seropositive and seronegative rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract.
Objectives. To determine the predictive value of rheumatoid factor in gastric and duodenal erosions and ulcers formation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis who took meloxicam (group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; NSAID).
Material and methods. Randomly selected 97 patients with rheumatoid arthritis who took meloxicam were studied prospectively. Gastric and duodenal erosions and ulcers appearance was registered within 4-8 years. All patients were divided into groups according to the presence or absence of rheumatoid factor and also Helicobacter pylori infection.
Results. High indices of the predictive factor (rheumatoid factor) for the prognosis of gastroduodenal erosions and ulcers development in patients with rheumatoid arthritis who took meloxicam during 4-8 years have been established both in the group of patients infected by Helicobacter pylori and in the group of patients not infected by Helicobacter pylori.
Conclusions. For the first time, the predictive value of the rheumatoid factor (P<0.01) in H.pylori-positive and H.pylori-negative patients with rheumatoid arthritis, taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (meloxicam) during 4-8 years, for prognosis of gastroduodenal erosions and ulcers development has been established without considering any other risk factors.
