The application of vaseline-lanolin basis for diagnosing allergy to nickel

Abstract.
Panels for the detection of an allergy to nickel include solutions of their salts in about g/100 ml or mol/l  concentrations. However, they can differ in the solvents used in their production (water, alcohol, oils, vaseline), anions (chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, etc.). It causes a certain variability of the received results. Thus, there is a necessity for the determination of the diagnostically most significant basis for metal salts dissolving and for doing skin tests.
The research objective was to develop a technique of diagnosing an allergy to metals by means of application tests with the use of vaseline - lanolin basis for the dissolution of NiCl2 • 6H2O as an allergen by doing application tests for the detection of sensitization to it.
The method of application testing with NiCl2 • 6H2O salt solution on vaseline - lanolin basis to determine sensitization of an organism to nickel has been developed and clinically tried.
Patients with intolerance to metals (n=30) have been examined. The control group was made up of almost healthy subjects (n=30).
This method allows to increase diagnostic sensitivity of the test by 16,7% (рWilcoxon<0,001), without lowering specificity in comparison with the results of doing application tests with vaseline basis, and is characterized by the absence of any doubtful reactions occurring while doing application tests on vaseline basis.
