Abstract.
This article is devoted to the morphofunctional properties of regional stem cells. As it is known, these are multipotent or unipotent stem cells of tissues and organs of an adult human and animal organism. They are present in small amounts in various organs and tissues and are one of the factors of tissue homeostasis. Theoretically, it is possible to consider that such cells are located in all tissues and organs of an animal organism. The article describes in detail the latest achievements in the study of regional stem cells of epithelial tissues, such as the interfollicular epidermis of the skin and the hair follicle, the stratified squamous nonkeratinized epithelium of the cornea of the eye, the simple columnar epithelium of the stomach and intestine. The structure of these stem cells niches, regulation of cells in niches are also considered in detail.
Key words: regional stem cells, epidermis, hair follicle, crypts, pericryptal myofibroblasts.
