Dynamic trends of the educational system of the advanced training: service experience

Abstract.
Objectives. To assess the expediency of short-term refresher courses and to substantiate the optimal period of such training depending on the qualification of students.
Material and methods. During the period from 2008 to 2016 inclusive 1659 surgeons as well as 56 neurologists and general practitioners have improved their qualification. During this time the staff members of the department have elaborated or thoroughly revised in line with new requirements and students’ proposals more than 25curricula.
Results. Initially refresher courses were designed for 288 academic hours (2 months). A new stage in the development of the department occurred in 1998. New, original curricula that had not existed previously on the territory of the Republic of Belarus were created. The main sources of information for the organization of new courses or the adjustment of the existing curricula are: regulations and orders of the Belarusian Ministry of Public Health; applications of the public health authorities; the analysis of the activities of the surgical service; the analysis of the popularity of the courses; the analysis of the students’ questionnaires. This predetermined the future trend of the department to elaborate monothematic curricula on the most relevant at the given moment problems in surgery of the duration from 72 to 144 academic hours. The curricula are thoroughly revised every two years. A survey of the students is conducted once, upon completion of the course, the questionnaire is completely anonymous and is filled in after passing the exam. The analysis of the demand for refresher courses as well as that of the students’ questionnaires, concerning the evaluation of various aspects of the educational process allows to promptly react to socially important requirements of practical health service.
Conclusions. The elaboration and realization of short-term monothematic refresher courses are highly expedient.
