Abstract.
The aim of this study is to evaluate recent and remote results of the comprehensive treatment of patients with cancer of the head of the pancreas.
The analysis of the comprehensive treatment results of 82 patients suffering from cancer of the head of the pancreas and being operated on in 2011-2015 has been made. The study has found that postoperative mortality after radical operations made up 7.32%, the one-year survival rate was 45.12%, the three-year survival rate amounted to 24.39%, the five-year survival rate was 10.98%, the median life-span of all the deceased patients made up 19.9 months. On the day of the completion of the study 11 (13.4%) patients are followed-up whose life-span after operation is from 47.2 months to 88.5 months, 7 out of them have no signs of the progression of the tumor process. While evaluating the treatment efficacy it has been established that adjuvant chemotherapy doesn’t put off the onset of the disease progression, but prolongs the mean length of patients’ life up to 29.9 months. The combination of systemic medicamentous therapy and radiotherapy in the postoperative period produces a more pronounced curative effect and doubles the mean life-span compared to patients who didn’t undergo chemo-radiotherapy at all.
Key words: cancer of the head of the pancreas, treatment results.
