Vestnik VGMU. 2023;22(5):90-95.
Abstract.
Objectives. To study the results of the survey of applicants and their legal representatives about the problems of the 2023 admission campaign at VSMU and the ways to improve it.
Material and methods. We developed an author’s questionnaire containing 10 questions divided into two blocks: questions 1-3 are intended to describe the respondents participating in the survey; questions 4-10 are used to study the attitude of the respondents to the innovations of the 2023 admission campaign at VSMU. The survey questions were published on the Internet in the format of an online questionnaire. Digital data were processed using descriptive statistics and the Excel program of the Microsoft Office 10.0 software package.
Results. The majority out of 137 respondents supported the innovations of the 2023 admission campaign, the purpose of which was to increase the efficiency of selecting the most motivated and prepared applicants, attracting them to regional institutions of higher education, for subsequent employment in the regions, observing the principle of equal opportunities for getting higher education. To achieve this goal, university Olympiads in biology and chemistry were held at VSMU, the winners of which had the right to enrollment without entrance tests to study at budget places; the number of places for getting special higher education on the terms of targeted training in the specialties «Pediatrics» and «Dentistry» has been increased up to 80% of the admission control figures. The average score of the certificate of applicants enrolled in VSMU under the conditions of targeted training was 9.08±0.57, that of the winners of the university Olympiad made up 9.70±0.39. For the places allocated for organizations-customers of personnel of the Vitebsk region, 70.0-91.1% of applicants enrolled in the university on the terms of targeted training are natives of the Vitebsk region. The most frequent suggestion of the respondents was the wish to optimize the timing of the entrance campaign.
Conclusions. During the 2023 admission campaign, the principles of attracting motivated and talented youth to VSMU were implemented, and the comments made by respondents can be taken into account when conducting the entrance campaign next year.
