Abstract.
Teaching dermatology as an integral part of the fundamental medical education involves the development of appropriate skills and abilities. Visual demonstrations of the study objects are necessary both for students and residents studying skin and venereal diseases. Despite the widespread use of modern technical means in teaching, such as colour slides, photographs, video films, and multimedia complexes, moulages remain an indispensable tool. Dermatological moulages provide a relief plastic image of a pathologically altered part of the body with all the smallest details of the manifestation of skin diseases. Interest in preserving these wonderful dermatological illustrations is not fading even with the rise of Internet, justifying high value of the preserved museum collections of dermatological moulages. The staff of the dermatovenereology and cosmetology department of Vitebsk State Medical University continues using the moulage collection founded by Professor I.I. Bogdanovich for the educational process. Unlike other outdated practices, moulages have a significant potential to regain their place in the dermatological curriculum.
