Abstract.
Objectives. To analyze the results of various methods of treating breast cysts and determine the optimal tactics for patients’ management.
Material and Methods. The treatment outcomes of 284 patients with fibrocystic breast disease were studied at Medical On Group-Balashikha (Russian Federation) and Vitebsk Regional Clinical Dispensary (Republic of Belarus). Clinical, laboratory, and instrumental data were analyzed, as well as the effectiveness of conservative, surgical, and combined treatment methods for breast cysts.
Results. A comprehensive approach to treating fibrocystic breast disease has been established to be optimal. Conservative therapy is effective for thin-walled cysts up to 1 mm in size. A combination of conservative therapy and puncture of the cyst is the treatment of choice for cysts 1-2 cm in size and with a wall thickness of up to 1 mm. Sclerotherapy has also been proven to be effective. Sectoral mammary resection is preferred for the treatment of chronic breast cysts. Laser vaporization of cysts has no advantages over other treatment methods.
Conclusions. Combination therapy allows for the most complete treatment of cystic mastopathy. Puncture and injection of a sclerosant into the cyst cavity is the most effective treatment for thin-walled lesions with the wall thickness of approximately 1 mm.
Keywords: breast cyst, cyst puncture, conservative therapy, sclerotherapy, surgical treatment.
