Abstract.
Patients with impaired static-dynamic function due to diseases and injuries of the central nervous system represent a clinically heterogeneous group characterized by a combination of motor, sensory, cognitive, and emotional impairments. These impairments lead to limitations in activity and participation, decreased self-care, mobility, and social integration. Therefore, an objective assessment of functioning and identification of the needs of this category of patients is a key step in planning and implementing medical rehabilitation actions.
The aim of this study was to analyze modern instruments for assessing the functioning of patients with movement disorders, assessing their compliance with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and suitability for use in medical rehabilitation practice. The study examined the most popular scales and questionnaires: WHODAS 2.0, FIM, SCIM III, Barthel Index, CIQ, CHART, SF-36, and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). A comparative analysis of their content, robustness to bias, and psychometric properties, including content, criterion, and construct validity, was conducted. Particular attention was paid to comparing these instruments with the ICF domains of functioning, activity, and participation.
Based on the developed algorithm for assessing the suitability of instruments, a set of scales suitable for use in assessing patients with static-dynamic dysfunctions was proposed. The obtained results allow us to justify the use of a combination of universal and specialized assessment instruments depending on the clinical situation, stage of rehabilitation, and goals of the restorative intervention.
Keywords: scales, questionnaires, impaired static-dynamic function, activity and participation limitation, central nervous system impairment, International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health.
