Catalytic activity of IgAs and enzymes of the oral fluid in patients with chronic periodontitis

Abstract.
Comparative study of catalytic activity of IgAs and enzymes of oral fluid of patients with chronic periodontitis and healthy subjects was elaborated. Proteolytic (amidase, elastase, cathepsin G, B, and C), oxidative (peroxidase, catalase) and DNAse activities of oral fluids and abzymes were assessed.
It has been found that abzyme elastase, peroxidase, and DNAse activities of polyclonal IgAs, isolated from oral fluids of patients with chronic periodontitis were significantly higher (p<0,01-0,001) in comparison with healthy group.
Enzymatic oxidative (peroxidase, catalase) and proteolytic activities (elastase, cathepsin B) as well as the levels of DNA concentration in samples of oral fluids were also substantially elevated in patients with chronic periodontal disease (p<0,001). The rise of DNA concentration in oral fluid may be concerned as the putatively new laboratory biomarker of progression of chronic periodontitis.
Key words: enzymatic activity, oral fluid, saliva, IgA, abzyme, peroxidase, catalase, elastase, cathepsin, DNAse.
