The research of professional competence formation in students
Educational Establishment «Vitebsk State Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical University», Vitebsk, Republic of Belarus

Abstract.
In accordance with the requirements of the state educational standards of the Republic of Belarus of the third generation the training of specialists must be oriented towards the realization of competence approach. To evaluate the activity of Vitebsk State Medical University aimed at the formation of professional competences in the fourth-sixth-year medical students, the third-fifth-year pharmaceutical and stomatological students 2137 persons have been questionnaired. In consequence of the analysis  of questionnairing results main directions to optimize the educational process at the university in that light have been determined. Regarding the students’ suggestions about the increase of the quantity of academic hours for the studying of such disciplines as pharmacology, surgical diseases, obstetrics and gynecology, internal diseases (medical faculty), pharmacology with the fundamentals of pharmacotherapy (pharmaceutical faculty), operative dentistry, pediatric dentistry and prevention of dental diseases (stomatological faculty) the heads of the chairs have been recommended to consider the question of elaboration of courses available at option in these subjects. While organizing the educational process in general professional and professional disciplines the teachers should pay attention to the development of social and personality competences in their students in order to lay the basis for interpersonal communication with their patients and colleagues as well as with junior medical personnel and patients’ relatives.
