Abstract.
Objectives. To analyze the use of antibacterial therapy for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial area and neck in the Republic of Belarus.
Material and methods. The survey of oral surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons of the Republic of Belarus during 2017-2019 was conducted. 123 doctors answered 11 questionnaire questions.
Results. The most commonly used antibacterial drugs are b-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins) and fluoroquinolones. Linkosamides (lincomycin), tetracyclines (doxycycline), azithromycin are used less commonly. For the choice of this or that antibacterial drug, the most important things are both its availability (price) and good tolerance by the patients. The possibility to purchase an antibiotic without the prescription is of no small importance. Most often, the doctors prescribe a drug for the time period of at least 5 days, more rarely – at least 7 days. Only a part of the doctors surveyed are guided by the dynamics of the clinical pattern and manufacturer’s recommendations. Of the main causative agents of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial area and neck, doctors most often noted Staphylococcus aureus. Dentists most frequently prescribe amoxicillin and cephalosporins for the prevention of postoperative complications.
Conclusions. It is necessary to organize systematic monitoring of the provided antibiotic therapy in the outpatient and inpatient dental practice, to develop and introduce into practice the instructions and recommendations for dentists on modern principles of antibacterial therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial area.
Key words: antibiotic treatment, maxillofacial area, questionnairing.
