The technique of determining the danger class of industrial wastes according to the toxicity in acute experiment on warm-blooded animals

Abstract.
Objectives. To develop and test a method for determining the danger class of industrial wastes according to the toxicity in acute experiment on warm-blooded animals. In the course of development, it is necessary to determine and to substantiate the conditions for sample preparation, sample dosing, the multiplicity of standard dilutions, as well as the parameters for accounting toxic effects, and on the basis of them to develop a scheme for assessing and ranking industrial wastes by hazard classes.
Material and methods. To test the method, 12 industrial wastes of various consistency and physicochemical properties were selected, the hazard class of which is already known. In the course of testing, groups of 5 animals were intragastrically once administered with a needle-probe fixed volumes of test samples of wastes in the dose of 3 ml / 200 g of body weight of the rats. Starting dilution was selected in such a way as to achieve some toxic effects: signs of intoxication or death of animals. Depending on the presence or absence of toxic effects, the other group of animals was injected dilutions with higher or lower concentrations of wastes, until pronounced toxicity was revealed, or until no toxic effects were observed when the sample was administered without dilution.
Results. After testing various wastes, the correspondence of hazard classes determined according to the developed scheme for assessing the toxicity of wastes in an acute experiment was obtained. On the basis of the obtained results, it can be concluded that the experimental conditions and the criteria for evaluating the toxicity of industrial wastes in an acute experiment on white rats while intragastric administration of fixed volumes of the tested samples are adequate. The developed method enables the use of the minimum number of animals in the experiment: 5-10 individuals for testing  one  wastes sample.
