Abstract.
Objectives. To identify complications that develop after intracrown whitening of devitalized teeth.
Material and methods. To study possible complications that arise during and after intracoronal whitening, 194 pulpless teeth that had changed their colour were whitened in 190 patients.
Results. The analysis of the data obtained indicates that when using cement-based materials from zinc-phosphate and glass ionomer cement as wellhead fillings, and the material based on eugenol and zinc oxide as a temporary filling, after whitening some complications were revealed such as tooth root resorption – in 6.19% of cases, crown fractures – in 1.03%, periodontal tissue inflammation – in 4.12%, falling out of temporary fillings during intracrown whitening – in 5.15%, whitening agent penetration into the oral cavity – in 7.22% of cases, respectively. On using double-hardened glass ionomer cement or self-adhesive self-etching double-cured composite cement as a wellhead seal and a temporary chemically hardened glass ionomer cement filling, no complications were observed. The received data indicate that for prevention of complications development, the correct choice of materials for wellhead and temporary fillings is of importance.
Conclusions. The effectiveness of clinical implementation of recommendations for using the materials to manufacture wellhead and temporary fillings consisted in the reduction of the risk of complications development after intracrown whitening by 23.71%.
Key words: whitening, insulating properties, devitalized tooth, complications.
