Innovative methods of monitoring students’ knowledge and competencies under conditions of supervised independent work using the Moodle distance learning system

Abstract.
The article presents innovative methods for monitoring students’ knowledge and competencies – creating a final portfolio with comparative tables, academic case history and modelling a clinical situation based on a case method, reflexive practice after an online lecture, applied at the Chair of Clinical Immunology and Allergology with the course of the Faculty for Advanced Training & Retraining of Vitebsk State Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical University under conditions of supervised independent work of students using the Moodle distance learning system.
Objectives. To develop and apply effective methods of monitoring students’ knowledge and competencies in the discipline «Clinical Immunology, Allergology» under conditions of supervised independent work using the Moodle distance learning system.
Results. A method for assessing the level of students’ knowledge and their ability to critical analysis of a large amount of material in the form of compiling summarizing tables and creating a final portfolio for all classes of the cycle «Clinical Immunology, Allergology» has been developed and applied. A method of intermediate control in the form of a reflective discussion after online lectures is proposed. For the determination of the professional competencies formation, it is recommended to use the case method for a comprehensive analysis of the clinical case in the context of real medical practice with the obligatory formulation of a diagnosis, treatment planning and development of recommendations on discharge, as well as a reverse case method with the students’ modelling of a clinical situation. The role of an additional element of knowledge control in the discipline «Clinical Immunology, Allergology» is assigned to pedagogical testing.
Conclusions. At the Chair of Clinical Immunology and Allergology with the course of the Faculty for Advanced Training & Retraining of Vitebsk State Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical University under conditions of supervised independent work using the Moodle distance learning system, effective methods of monitoring students’ knowledge and competencies in the discipline «Clinical Immunology, Allergology» have been successfully developed and applied: creating a final portfolio with comparative tables, writing an academic case history and modelling a clinical situation using the case method, reflective discussion after an online lecture, pedagogical testing.
