Belarusian State Medical University, Minsk, Republic of Belarus

Vestnik VGMU. 2023;22(4):105-121.

Abstract.
Objectives. To investigate the range of herbal medicines (HM) registered in the Republic of Belarus.
Material and methods. The data of the Register of Medicines of the Republic of Belarus of the Republican Unitary Enterprise «Center for Expertise and Testing in HealthCare» (State register of medicines) were analyzed. The analysis of the range of HM registered in the Republic of Belarus was carried out according to the following criteria: «country of production», «manufacturer», «composition», «originality», «dosage form (DF)», «group according to anatomical-therapeutic-chemical (ATC) classification».
Results. The share of HM in the period from 01.01.2017 to 01.01.2021 varied from 11.6 to 13.5% of all medicines registered in the Republic of Belarus and as of 01.01.2021 amounted to 12.1%. According to the criterion «composition» monocomponent drugs prevailed among HM in the period 2017-2021, according to the criterion «originality» – generic ones. In the study period, the nomenclature of countries whose HM were registered in the Republic of Belarus decreased from 25 to 23, the nomenclature of manufacturing plants decreased from 114 to 95. The nomenclature of DF of HM in the study period varied from 36 to 43, as of 01.01.2021 made up 39 DF. In the study period most of the HM were presented in the form of packaged raw materials and in bulk. According to the criterion «group according to ATC classification» HM used in the treatment of diseases of the digestive tract and metabolic diseases prevailed in the study period.
Conclusions. The identified trends in the registration of HM determine the relevance and prospects for the development and production of combined HM of domestic production, the expansion of the range of HM DF in the domestic segment, as well as the increase in the range of HM from the ATC classification groups: anti-infective agents for systemic use (including antiviral), antiparasitic drugs, drugs for the treatment of eye diseases.
