Abstract.
The peculiarities of laboratory diagnosis of viral hepatitis C (VHC) give rise to difficulties for laboratory doctors and clinicians, which is driven by high prevalence of erased and asymptomatic forms. Untimely diagnosis making leads to the development of severe complications: cirrhosis of the liver and hepatocellular carcinoma.
The article describes the research of blood sera of Krasnoyarsk Regional Dermatovenerology Dispensary No. 1 patients with VHC by means of ELISA test with different test systems, after which the samples that gave positive and questionable results were reinvestigated using the same test systems. The samples that twice gave positive results were selected for conducting confirmation ELISA tests after which ELISA test system was used to prove the presence of antibodies to VHC by revealing antibodies spectrum to each antigen.
According to the results of the investigation on receiving positive and weak positive screening results it is necessary to use confirmatory test systems; in case of indeterminate results it is recommended to resort to clarification diagnosing methods (PCR, immunoblot). Reference values have also been established for the results obtained by the screening method.
Keywords: diagnosis, viral hepatitis C, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), antibodies, confirmatory tests, reference values.
